I broke Windows 95Created on February 22, 2014 Conserve bandwidth! Change quality: 240 Maximum A mishap occurs whilst trying to set up file sharing between a 486 machine and my Windows 7 workstation. After recording this video, I reinstalled Windows and got the file sharing working. If you want to share files from a modern Windows machine, keep in mind that you'll have to allow for 40/56 bit encryption and SMBv1 connections, as well as allow LM/NTLM logons or install NTLMv2 support in Windows 95. Also be sure the client has TCP/IP installed. But it's been so long since this happened that I forgot what exactly caused it. I guess having the NetWare client (NWREDIR) installed is a bad idea if you're not connecting to a NetWare server. And yes, this is a little bit different from the original. I recreated it from the raw captures of the original MiniDV tapes, was pretty easy given it's a very simplistic video. Comments
I recently figured out a way to drastically speed up encoding clips to Cinepak using FFmpeg, which basically involves using GNU Parallel to split up a clip into as many segments as there are CPU cores and then concatenating them together. It's still not quite polished up, so for a brief moment there were links to 16 AVI segments.
For clarification, this doesn't come close to Kugee's first recording of a legacy machine, particularly this 486. You'll see what I mean when the later episodes of Hardcore Windows get published.
Kugee: unix hacking ! Anyway if only I had time to experiment on parallelising the encoding code... 3 comments on this page Sort: Ascending | Descending Leave a Comment |
