3dfx popularized 3D acceleration for x86 PCs. Not only did the Voodoo make games look better, it also often made them run faster. The first Voodoo is kind of slow, but trust me... next episode, you'll see a multitude of computers absolutely flying through this game.

The Voodoo and its successor, the Voodoo2, were dedicated 3D accelerators which an existing 2D card would pass through to. They cannot display graphics in a format not designed for them, including normal GUIs. I learned this the hard way when I bought my first Voodoo2 in 2012.

The signal distortion you see in this recording is the result of my video recording setup. Some time ago, I acquired new capture equipment to drastically improve the quality of new recordings, but it doesn't solve absolutely everything. This doesn't look this bad on a CRT by itself.
