Now we're really taking off! One would guess Quake's frame rate on a 133MHz CPU as opposed to a 66MHz one would be somewhere around 15 FPS, but that is not the case. The Pentium's strong FPU makes it ideal for Quake.

Given the 133MHz variant was introduced in the middle of 1995, this is very far ahead of a lot of others that would typically clock around 75 to 90MHz, although it seems my system was built in early 1996. Even the slowest Pentium would still be a good option for Quake (as long as it doesn't have the FDIV bug).

Also at play here is a PCI video card, PCI being the much leaner 32-bit expansion bus in contrast to VLB's physical size. Classic PCI slots have largely faded from the mainstream PC market, but can still be found on select LGA 1200 motherboards manufactured today.
